Storing Del's Bread
For my first blog post, I wanted to get right to what my goal will be with these posts and offer some useful baking tips. I don’t like talking about myself, so I'm here to offer tips and food for thought.
My first tip, I like to let all my customers know that my bread has no Preservatives. This just means it won’t last as long as store bought bread. But it also means, it doesn’t have as much salt and sugar in each loaf. So don’t feel bad if you find yourself eating an entire loaf in one sitting… I’ve done it!
First off, keeping any sort of bread in the fridge is a great tip. Even if you are storing, store bought bread. It is a great way to keep your bread fresh for longer, especially during those hot summer months. But I would keep all my homeade loaves in the fridge to prevent the loaf from molding and getting hard too quickly. I have found that most of my breads last well over a week, when kept in the fridge.
Freezing my bread is also a great option to keep them fresh. I tend to saran wrap and put in a freezer bag to avoid too much frost burn. Freezing one of my loaves will keep for a few months. Depending on the loaf, you will have to take out at least a few hours before eating. Then throwing in the oven to warm up will always rejuvenate a loaf of bread, as if it was freshly baked that day!
I have full control of the salt, sugar, and even what type of flour I use in my breads. So if you have any dietary concerns, just shoot me an email to ask me about the amount of salt and/or sugar I use in a certain loaf. Just remember, the sugar in the dough will help levitate the bread and the salt will bring out all the flavors…. But that can be another blog discussing those two ingredients.
To sum it up, my breads are meant to be eaten right away but will last at least a week or so in the fridge. And most people do not know, but bread freezes great!
I’ve made a little chart of most of my products and how to defrost if you need to store them in the freezer.
Enjoy and Bon Appétit!
